V7 Author Product Description
V7 Author is a ‘standalone’ component of the V7 digital dictation system. Its function is to
download files from digital handheld recorders and transfer them to local folders; network
folders; remote servers via FTP or HTTP; or to email inboxes. It also has the ability to
transfer voice files that have already been created on local folders and route them elsewhere
via FTP, HTTP or email using pre-configured routing information.
The user setup and interface have been designed to be as easy as possible to use.
Once configured, all that most authors will need to do is to connect their handheld recorder
to a USB port on their PC and the application will pop up automatically. If details such as a
client reference are needed, this can simply be added to each voice file together with notes
and a priority selection. Then it’s just a matter of pressing ‘send’ and the voice file and
associated data file are transferred to the designated location. A backup copy of the file
is kept on the local PC, and the memory of the handheld recorder (if used) is erased in
preparation for the next recordings.
Below is a screenshot of files prepared for transfer:

V7 Author incorporates a web-based configuration
facility to simplify administration in a networked, multi-user environment. An administrator
can make configuration changes through a simple web interface and these will then be transferred
to local clients on demand.
